Sonam Sherpa is one of the Himalayas’ most accomplished and trusted expedition guides. In 2025, he achieved a landmark summit of Mount Everest (8,848 m), the world’s highest peak a defining milestone in a career built on elite performance and an intimate command of the world’s most demanding mountain environments. His climbing résumé encompasses numerous high altitude ascents across the Himalayan range, reflecting both exceptional physical capability and decades of hard earned expertise.

For the past 17 years, Sonam has guided Austrian travelers through the Himalayas on behalf of Weltweitwandern and ASI Reisen. Over this period, he progressed from local porter to fluent German speaking lead guide, developing not only technical mastery but a deep ability to bridge cultures. Among his proudest achievements is a school project he helped establish in his home village of Hile, developed in collaboration with guests.

Fluent in German, Sonam has built a distinguished record with leading expedition and trekking companies across the region, consistently guiding clients safely and confidently through remote and demanding terrain. His core areas of expertise include route planning, high altitude acclimatization strategy, risk assessment, and emergency response competencies refined over a career spent at the outer limits of altitude.
